About Houston
Everything’s bigger in Texas, and in no other city is that more apparent than in Houston. This means that there’s a lot to experience in the 832 area code. Liftoff and experience NASA astronaut training first-hand at the Space Center of Houston before hopping over to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. While the Houston Galleria and the Houston Zoo are great for an action-packed day in the 832 area code, you’ll also want to be sure to check out Houston Aquarium downtown on your way to walk the spacious streets of Discovery Green. Interested in a bit of BBQ and sports? The 832 area code is home to Minute Maid Park, home to the Houston Astros and some of Texas’ tastiest BBQ.
Areas Served
Because of the sheer size of Houston, the 832 area code shares coverage with the 713 area code and a few smaller area codes. However, the 832 area code mostly covers numbers located within the Beltway 8, extending also to serve mainly the counties of Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria, and Liberty.
The History of 832
As the United States’ fourth-largest city, you can imagine that Houston has more than one area code. And, that’s where the history of the 832 area code begins. As part of the 1947 North American Number Plan, the 713 area code was created to cover the entire southeastern part of Texas, including Houston. And, it was split and overlaid twice before by the time they had to introduce the 832 area code in 1999. While the 713 area code remained as the most well-known area code in Houston, Texas, today it’s mostly used for landlines, with just over a quarter of its numbers being used for wireless numbers. That’s quite the opposite for the 832 number, which covers 14% of the city of Houston and is used mostly for wireless numbers in the area. And, covering 14% of the city of Houston means that the 832 are code currently serves nearly 300,000 people in the area, plus numerous in the surrounding cities such as Pasadena, Pearland, Sugar Land, and The Woodlands. In total, the 832 area code joins area codes 713, 346, and 281 as one of Houston’s four area codes serving some of Texas’ most populated counties.
